I enjoyed reading your great post, thanks. You took me back down Memory Lane, I must say. I, too, hung out at “the bars”, back in the day. Yep, I’s almost dance myself sick at Menjo’s on Six Mile Road – the same bar that Madonna frequented. It’s kind of weird … I never ran into her there. We also grew up in the same town; Rochester, Michigan. I remember seeing her at one of Dan Healy’s house parties. She was ahead of her time – doing a “cougar routine”; making out with a younger guy. Year’s later, when I got my SAG and AFTRA union cards I moved to L.A. – and ‘lo and behold, my nephews get signed to Madonna record label, Maverick Records. Yep, they were the first male R & B group on her label. U.N.V. (my two nephews group) But, they had a blast while it lasted (traveling on her Blond Ambition tour – touring Europe as her opening act). All I could think was … who’d a thunk it?? Life is something else; in a good way.
I think that your friend, Julius, is right. You have to be “all about YOU” if you want to make it in show biz. Not my personal style, however. I don’t have paparazzi chasing me and I haven’t made zillions, billions and trillions yet – but I’m really happy. I chucked show biz to for the Caterer to the Stars. Now, I have my own business and thankfully I have no regrets about leaving show biz. I love it (catering) so much … that I’d always do it for free. Madonna and my nephews, John and Shawn can have it.
