WTF!
Did everybody hear the news about the July 21, 2008 cover of The New Yorker?
This is offensive, even from a liberal rag like The New Yorker. Michelle and Barack are standing in the presidential bedroom. Michelle has a big afro and submachine gun slung across her back like the female head of the urban terrorist gang in the movie Network. Barack is in full Islamic garb as he fist-bumps his wife (a Fox News correspondent recently raised suspicions that the fist-bump is a terrorist gesture) as the American flag burns in the fireplace. This is not a lampoon. This is fodder for those who impugn Barack and Michelle’s characters. It’s also racist and xenophobic from the word go.
And let’s not forget that a lot of Jewish liberals, who form a large share of The New Yorker’s audience, are throwing their support behind McCain on account of how Obama wishes to engage Iran in conversation. (Gee, what’s the alternative? Shun talks with Iran the way Clinton and Bush have. Well, that policy has worked like a charm.) Isn’t this cover reinforcing libel for detractors and fence-riders alike?
Rarely do I hand anything to McCain, but, still and all, I will hand this to his campaign with regards to this
fiasco: Tucker Bounds did say, “We completely agree with the Obama Campaign that this is tasteless and offensive.”

The folks at the New Yorker have been staunch Hillary advocates. I thought the primaries were over.
