Today, I christen my own blog on WordPress. I admit, blogging is a medium that I don’t understand but that seems hardwired into everybody else’s psyches. One morning, right before the new millennium, everybody woke up with the understanding that they were supposed to go online and write sound-bytes, opining on current events and happenings. There was no course to take. Everyone just understood the slapdash blog etiquette – it had been dormant in their DNA the whole time – “write posts for extroverts about extroverted subjects – and write them quick!”
Well, I must have been asleep that morning. Nature predisposed me to longer, introspective pieces. I’m a thoroughgoing navel-gazer, who lives in mortal dread of getting another review like the one I got, in the form of a letter, on a semi-autobiographical play I wrote back in 2001. In short, it said, “Nobody gives a fuck about your life.” It took me about a year to get over that one line.
So, pleased to make your acquaintance, everybody, but I’m gonna warn you right now: I can’t promise I’ll always cater to your ADD with three-line blogs.
